Fraxel: Everything You Need To Know!

Fraxel Laser treatment helps you to remove years of damage from your appearance by improving tone, texture and radiance for aging, sun damaged or scarred skin. Fraxel uses a technique called “fractional photothermolysis”, a technology in which thousands of tiny laser columns treat a fraction of the skin without affecting the surrounding tissue. These laser columns stimulate the production of younger, smoother, healthier skin to replace damaged tissue.

How does it work?
The Fraxel laser creates tiny channels deep into the skin which the skin repairs by pushing out the old sun damaged skin and replacing it with new skin. Each treatment replaces about 15-20% of the sun damaged, scarred or wrinkled skin.

How long does the treatment take?
The treatment is performed between 20-30 minutes. 1 hour prior to the appointment we will apply a topical anaesthetic to the face. We also administer cool air to the skin 20 minutes after the treatment is performed.

What are the results and how long does it take for results to show?
Smoother, fresher, younger-looking looking skin, improved tone and texture, reducing unwanted brown spots, reduced fine lines around the eyes.

Are maintenance treatments required?
With any laser treatment we recommend a series of treatment. The amount and frequency is determined by the individuals skin.

Do any other treatments compliment or work well with this treatment?
Yes, we recommend a series of non-ablative rejuvenating lasers to enhance and maintain the skin for lasting results.

What are the comparative advantages of this treatment as opposed to other options out there?
Traditionally, two kinds of laser treatment have been available for cosmetic skin treatment: ablative and non-ablative. Typical ablative treatments, which use a high temperature to vaporize unwanted tissue, can be effective—but with significant side effects and several weeks of recovery time. Non-ablative treatments, meanwhile, have very few side effects and low downtime, but they commonly require numerous treatments to produce more modest results.

Fraxel laser treatment delivers the potency of ablative treatments with the gentle safety of non-ablative lasers. So you get the best of both worlds: dramatic results and less downtime.

Is there any pre or post care needed?
The use of SPF and healing products are administered for safe healing. We offer a free post Fraxel facial to help skin heal and exfoliate the dead skin away.

Are there any side effects or downtime?
Swelling and redness are the most common side effects from Fraxel refine treatment. Any swelling is typically minimal and subsides within a day or two, and any redness typically fades within a few days. Other temporary side effects may include minor itching, dry skin, peeling or flaking, and a bronzed skin appearance. There is a very limited risk of infection, hyperpigmentation, or scarring. The intensity and duration of side effects depend on the aggressiveness of treatment and on your particular healing characteristics. Your clinician will provide specific instructions about what to expect and how to minimise any side effects.

What areas can be treated?
We can treat face, neck, hands, decolletage, and other sun damaged areas.

Who can be treated? And who is not suitable for the treatment?
We can treat pale to light olive skin tones. The type of pigment and condition of your skin will be assessed to see if you are the right candidate.
